Headlight covers

How do you get the headlight covers with the black tops instead of the all clear finish? Can you buy them like that or do you paint them from underneath? If so is there a template for the shape required?

Thanks

Re: Headlight covers

I don't know whether mine is a reference, the black limit seems to match the front of the metallic circle around the main headlight. I can make measurements if you want more accuracy, however, as I said, providing mine is standard, if you wish.

Re: Headlight covers

Yes please if you can. Were your covers already on your car or did you produce them? Are they painted from underneath the Perspex.

Re: Headlight covers

Hi!
The head covers were already in place like that when I bought my car from Germany. I don't think these covers are from stock (origin) as on my 1975 A110 they were hold in place by 3 plastic screws and not by two stainless steel screws as presently.
The black is not from painting, it's a plastic film, similar to the covering films widely used to cover cars (I have my truck covered). I don't think you could achieve so clean with paint. Of course this film has been applied inside (below) the cover to be protected from the outside harsh environment.
This film is 8.8 mm large at the widest. See the picture.

Should you need extra help, please feel free getting back to me.

Regards

Re: Headlight covers

Thanks for your response. It looks like some gloss vinyl wrap material would do the job?

Re: Headlight covers

Probably, the drawback of vinyl is its poor ageing resistance under UV rays and heat. However, we don't usually leave these cars under bright sunshine for months in a year and anyway, this film is of easy replacement.
When you'r done with this, please post a picture of your work, it may help someone else down the road.

Re: Headlight covers

Here’s a shot of the vinyl wrapping achieved on the headlight covers.
