Rear wheel bearings

A rear wheel bearing on my car disintegrated yesterday.

I understand that there is now a kit including a double sealed for life bearing that requires modification to be made to the existing hub in order to fit.

Has anybody done this and is able to advise why it has become necessary. Presumably it is to overcome regular greasing of what appears to be an OE bearing that was prone to the elements getting in and wrecking it?

Au top Philippe, j avais pas vu ton plan pour modifier afin de monter des gros roulements.
Je vais faire la modif sur la mienne cet été.

C'est fiable et tellement plus simple que déposer les trompettes et les modifier...

Remercions au passage Jean-Marc Rachard qui l’a monté sur sa 4cv "légèrement modifiée "car disposant d’un superbe moteur Gordini 1296cc !!

Dans mon cas, j'ai apporté à Michel Camus les deux cages et moyeux , et en échange il m'a fourni ces pièces modifiées, un "échange standard " en quelque sorte.

Au remontage n'hésite pas à remplacer la foutue goupille qui n'est jamais en face du trou après serrage à 20 m.kg

Un contre-écrou la remplace avantageusement...

J ai déjà un contre écrou car deux fois par le passé la roue gauche s est desserée.
