I NEED TO MAKE SURE I HAVE THE CORRECT HOSES FROM THE VALVE THROUGH THE BODY TO THE MAIN PIPES DOWN THE CHASSIS

Just use two lengths of straight silicon pipes about 2 m long.
They tolerate a bend at the connexion on the heater radiator.
You don't need a curved pipe like in the second picture here

what is purpose of the sleeve around the control rod

is it to prevent wear of the main rod through the large bracket

it does not seem to be held by anything ??
